    Frequently Asked Questions

A woman's cervix is a part that connects the uterus with the vagina. Sometimes the cells present in the cervix mutate, causing cervical cancer. Cancer generally affects deeper tissues of the cervix, but there is a possibility of it spreading to other organs like the lungs, bladder, vagina and rectum. Infection with HPV (Human Papillomavirus) is the most common cause of cervical cancer. Timely vaccination can prevent it.

The growth of cervical cancer is slow, so it allows time to detect and treat the disease. Since the Pap tests now offer better screening every year, fewer women die due to this cancer. Did you know that most likely cervical cancer occurs in women ageing from 35 to 44? But it is also seen in women who fail to get regular screenings.

    Types of cervical cancer include-

    • Adenocarcinoma
Mucus producing cells are formed in adenocarcinoma.
    • Squamous cell carcinoma
Most commonly, this type of cancer is seen in women. It will form in the cervix lining.
    • Mixed carcinoma
In mixed carcinoma, you will see combined both the types mentioned above.

If you suspect that you have cervical cancer or are worried about getting it, you should visit a hospital that will provide you with the best cervical cancer treatment in India.

Usually, the early stages of cervical cancer show symptoms, and they might get severe as the stage of the cancer advances. It also depends on the extent of the area that it has spread to. But not necessarily the reason for every symptom is cancer. It can be some other medical condition as well.

Following are some of the symptoms-

    • Bleeding post menopause
    • Bleeding after pelvic exam, intercourse or douching
    • Blood spots or little bleedings between or after periods
    • Increase in vaginal discharge
    • Menstrual bleeding lasts longer and is heavier
    • Pain while having intercourse
    • Unexplained but recurring pelvic/back pain

Make sure to visit your doctor if you experience any of the above symptoms. You can also consider visiting Dr Praveen Kammar, who will provide you with quality treatment at an affordable cervical cancer operation cost in India.

The various stages according to globally accepted standards of classification are-

    • Stage 0-
Abnormal cells present in the innermost lining of the cervix.
    • Stage I-
Cancer is invasive but limited to the cervix.
    • Stage II-
There is a locoregional spread beyond the uterus. Cancer has not reached the pelvic sidewall of even the lower third of the vagina.
    • Stage III-
Cancer has invaded the pelvic sidewall, including the lower third of the vagina. It may affect a kidney that is non-functional incident to invasion of the ureter or hydronephrosis.
    • Stage IV-
Cancer has reached the true pelvis or the mucosa of the bladder or rectum.

Dr Praveen Kammar has excellent experience and can provide you with the best treatment for cervical cancer in India, so you can get an opinion from him if you want to.

Following are the risk factors you should be aware of-

    • A weakened immune system
HPV infection weakens your immune system, making you more vulnerable to cervical cancer.
    • Early intercourse
Having sex at an early age can increase the chances of getting cervical cancer.
    • Exposure to miscarriage prevention drugs
If a pregnant lady takes a miscarriage prevention drug-like DES (diethylstilbestrol), the child in the womb might contract a specific type of cervical cancer, which is clear cell adenocarcinoma.
    • Many sexual partners
If you have many sexual partners and they, in turn, have more than one sexual partner, then your risk of getting HPV is very high.
    • Other STIs (Sexually transmitted infections)
Chlamydia, syphilis, HIV/AIDS, gonorrhoea are some STIs that make you vulnerable to HPV.
    • Smoking
Squamous cell cervical cancer is associated with smoking.
If you have been exposed to any of the risk factors, get a check-up from your doctor.

Catching cancer early on makes it more treatable. The treatment can be given in the following four ways-

    • Chemotherapy
    • Targeted therapy
    • Radiation therapy
    • Surgery

You may undergo a combination of these treatments to treat your cancer effectively.

    • Chemotherapy
Chemotherapy is given in cycles to the patient, and the drugs used are designed to kill cancer cells present anywhere in your body. After a while, the treatment is stopped, and your body is allowed to recover on its own.
    • Targeted therapy
There are newer drugs used to prevent the growth of new blood vessels that help cancer to survive and grow. It works differently than chemo and radiation therapy but is often given in combination with chemotherapy.
    • Radiation therapy
X-ray beams of high energy are delivered to your body using a machine that kills cancer cells in radiation. There is a way to give internal radiation as well. It is done by placing a metal tube in the vagina or uterus.
    • Surgery
In some early cases, only the cervix that has cancer cells will be removed by the doctor. If the cancer is widespread, then other affected organs might be removed in addition to the cervix.

Based on the stage and extent of cancer you have, your doctor will propose a treatment that will prove most effective for you. The type of treatment you undergo affects cervical cancer cost in India.
